Parents

The Parents page lists every parent account, along with the number of children each one has enrolled in the school. Parents are created automatically when a student is imported or added.

The parent module uses the phone number as the unique identifier. When a student is imported, if a parent already exists with the same parent_phone, the student is linked to that existing account rather than creating a duplicate.

The table

Each row shows the parent's name, email, phone number and number of children. You can search by name, email or phone, and filter to show trashed (deleted) parents.

This page is read-only from the school's point of view. Parent accounts can belong to more than one school and are owned by the parent, so the school cannot edit a parent's details or delete the account from here. Parent details are managed where they are entered — on the student form (see Students).

Removing a parent

There is no manual "remove" action. A parent is automatically detached from the school when their last enrolled child is removed: when a student is deleted, any parent who has no other children in the school is unlinked from it. A parent who still has other children in the school stays linked.

When a deleted student is restored, their parents are re-linked to the school automatically.

Detaching only removes the link between the parent and this school. The parent account itself is not deleted, and any link to other schools is kept. A parent who is no longer linked to any school becomes an orphan parent and is managed by the platform administrators, not from the school dashboard.

Re-adding a removed parent

If a parent was previously detached (or soft-deleted) and you add or import a student using the same phone number or email, the existing account is restored and re-linked to the school instead of creating a duplicate. This keeps the parent's history and login intact.

This page is only shown for organisation types that use guardians (schools and coaching centres). Clubs and societies, which do not track separate payers, will not see it.
